Sylvie and her thermal spring water treatment for psoriasis

Either as a patient, or accompanying a patient, they have benefited from an Avène Thermal Spring Water treatment and advice from our team of experts. Discover the testimony of Sylvie, who has been visiting the Avène Hydrotherapy Center for several years. She suffers from psoriasis. During her treatment, she lets go.

How long have you been coming to the Avène Hydrotherapy Center to soothe your psoriasis?

The first time, I was thirty years old and had psoriasis on my elbows, legs and lower back. The plaques were inflammatory, I scratched a lot, only wore long clothes. I was very hung up on it. On the advice of my dermatologist, I came two years in a row. The thermal spring water worked wonders for me. In three/four days, my skin was no longer the same. And then, due to family obligations, I waited twenty years before returning again. This summer I’m finishing my fourth spa treatment and I’m leaving with the plan of doing another one next year.

How do you feel when you are here?

My psoriasis only affects my elbows and I learned how to accept it. But here I do not ask myself every day if the plaques are regressing or not, I say to myself “ you will see in three weeks ". And in the meantime, I let go. I feel freer and take care of myself. I love bathing in the Avène Thermal Spring Water, I live in the moment, I recentre myself, I feel happy. And then here I find that everything is beautiful: the centre, the park, pedestrian paths...

And after your thermal treatment?

I am learning to manage my illness here. I think I’ve been to almost all of the workshops: makeup, hygiene, hydration and alternatives to scratching, stress management. I even tried Tai Chi one year. So I leave with lots of advice and motivated to put it into practice. I feel better about myself and more open to others.

One place: the walkway that leads from the baths to the park.

One treatment: the Avène Thermal Spring Water bath.

One discovery: new friendships

Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory condition that is characterised by prominent, red, raised patches covered with whitish scales or a thin silvery film that flakes off easily. There are  different forms of psoriasis : a complex disease, it can take many forms from one patient to another or manifest itself differently at different stages in life.
